Minneapolis Brand Photographer for Budgeting Coach / Melissa Pahl

Melissa Pahl helps women understand money and how to manage it. After her own experience of being in debt, then learning to come out of debt, she teaches women her technique of unbudgeting. She hosts in-person classes as well as online webinars where she walks women through her proven steps that create a better relationship with spending and saving for their futures. She needed a Minneapolis-based brand photographer to help her business look more “full time.” We were connected through a mutual friend and worked together to create images for her future webinars, ads for Facebook, website, and social media.

Since she had been using the same images for years, Melissa said it was time for a refresh! We used her friend’s apartment space in St. Paul for the backdrop of her session.

In her past photos, Melissa said she came off too formal and business-like. For this session, she also wanted to look more casual, approachable, fun, and trustworthy.

We gave her images this vibe by choosing casual and comfortable outfits. Melissa doesn’t have true brand colors, so we instead focused on what would look good against her skin, but also the backdrop of the building.

Her session took place in the fall, so we picked colors that would pop against a fall backdrop but also the orange and brick of the session space. She wore jeans, her favorite shoes, but also greens and purples to pop her out from the background.

Instead of power poses, Melissa sat on chairs and couches to show that she is approachable, as if you were sitting with her. She smiled, laughed, and made some silly faces vs. being stiff and straight-faced. This created an approachable and fun vibe, which is how she wants her potential clients to see her.

Melissa is on a mission to empower women with financial literacy. She believes when you are in charge of your money, you are in charge of your life. ⁠⠀I can’t wait to see her bring these photos into her brand even more over the next year as her business grows and becomes her full-time gig!
