The 3 Greatest Changes I’ve Made Since 2018

3 Greatest Changes

Today marks another year around the sun for me. Birthdays aren’t as exciting as they used to be. After 25, the number gets a little harder to appreciate. But instead of focusing on the number this year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the 3 greatest changes that I’ve made to my life since August 15, 2018.

1. I took a course on personal brand photography. Last year a this time, I took a course on personal brand photography, and it has changed my business in the best way possible. (Shout out the amazing Jamie Swanson who helped me through not only the course, but implementing it into my business).

Before 2018, I focused only on wedding photography and did the occasional portrait here and there. Now, I offer both wedding and personal brand photography, and it has been an amazing journey! I love weddings and will always do them, but helping entrepreneurs tell their stories and make an impact has filled my heart. I am so grateful I stumbled upon Jamie’s course, I can’t wait to see where this takes me.

2. I hung out with inspiring entrepreneurs and business owners. Last year, I barely networked. I had friends in the wedding industry that I worked with on the weekends, but that was it. I forced myself this past year to step outside my comfort zone and go to networking events where I knew no one.

At first, it was scary and hard, but now, it’s much more natural. In doing so, I’ve made some AMAZING friends who inspire me on the daily. Being a solopreneur can be really lonely. I can’t state how valuable it is to make friends who know how it feels to do what you do.

3. I valued my time and energy. To be honest, I’m still working on this one, but this past year (thanks to some inspiring friends) I’ve realized my time is valuable both in business and in the personal world.

Last year at this time, I was afraid. I wasn’t booking enough, and I took on some gigs that made me really stressed and unhappy. I am now saying no to what I don’t want to do, and standing firm on my prices.

In my personal life, I’ve also set some boundaries. Friendships shift and change, and there are people I’ve put some distance between for good reason. Just like with business, I’ve discovered that the people I take into my life should bring me happiness, not stress or anxiety. Learning to say no has not been easy, but it’s already made an impact.

These three changes feed into one another. They are a chain reaction that has shifted my life in a way I am excited about. Next year, I’ll reflect again. Thanks for reading friends.

I post about my personal life once a week on my blog in hopes we can connect. Here’s a few other posts if you want to get to know me a little more.
