Mabel Minnesota 2019

My husband’s family has a farm in Mabel, Minnesota. We visit the farm every year to relax, swim, and enjoy good company. When our original plans fell through for the fourth of July, we made a list minute trip.

Mabel, Minnesota is about 2.5 hours south of Minneapolis, and very close to the border of Iowa. The first time my husband told me about his family’s farm, I pictured cows, pigs, corn, the works. His family rents land to nearby farmers, but the farmhouse on the hill and pull barn are theirs to enjoy whenever they would like.

The rolling hills are beuatiful to look at, the sunsets down there are one of a kind. Maybe it’s from the farm land, but the sky turns purple and pink here more than anywhere else I have ever seen.

We invited two of our friends down who had never been to Mabel, and they had a great time. The funny thing about this area is that there is a lot more to do here than one would think.

After a night of grilling and chilling, we made our way to Decorah, Iowa to explore a few swimming spots a friend had told my husband about. The town itself is charming, but the lanscape is incredible. It sits in bluff country, and the rivers rush between beautiful rocks and trees. There is also a park that has ice caves that we will have to explore next time.

We love spending time in Mabel, Minnesota at the Knox family farm. Southern Minnesota is truly a hidden gem. If you have never been out that way, there will be a lot of farm land, but also beautiful bluffs and rivers to explore. Can’t wait for us to return in August for another relaxing weekend with friends.
