Pig’s Eye Pottery / St. Paul Brand Session
Pig’s Eye Pottery is a ceramics studio and art gallery for Jason Kapping and local artists. Jason taught pottery for years around the cities, but when he found this space in St. Paul, he went all out. After a huge remodel, he reopened the doors with the intention to bring his handcrafted pieces straight to customers, build a local artist community, and host events and classes. Jason and I see each other regularly around the yoga studio, so we connected about me photographing a pottery class so they can promote more of these types of events. We gathered a great crew and got down and dirty with some clay for this St. Paul brand session.
Jason’s space is absolutely beautiful. He pairs his pottery with paintings and photography from other artists that invite you in with texture and color. There’s even a pottery wheel up front by the window if anyone wants to show off their skills for the street traffic.
Pottery classes at Pig’s Eye can be just for fun but are also great for team building. Jason welcomes everyone in with beer and wine, then once everyone arrives, goes over the basics of throwing clay onto a wheel. His wonderful sense of humor and fun personality allows people of all levels to feel comfortable trying this craft.
As he walked through the steps of the class, I photographed not only him, but his students. They were happy, engaged, and laughing. This helps his potential clients see what it is like to be in the class, and want to be a part of it.
Pig’s Eye Pottery offers these classes by request, so reach out to Jason to bond your family, get a group of friends together, or create a team vibe with your co-workers. His space is also open most of the week, so stop on in to check out his art and say hello.
