Kathio State Park – 8/28/16 – Mille Lacs, Minnesota
I love it when I can have the best of both worlds- work and play. This weekend, I got to do a bit of both up in Lake Mille Lacs. We left Friday after my husband finished working and rented a dog friendly cabin in Isle, Minnesota. Chapman’s resort sits right on the lake, and our cabin even had it’s own private deck with a beautiful view. The interior of the place made me smiley, it was so cozy, especially in the rain. We had great weather Saturday night, after I finished the wedding, and we were able throw a bunch of wood together for a bonfire, eat guacamole, and stream a live show from our favorite band.
Sunday, we woke up early then headed to Kathio State Park to do some hiking and swimming. The first trail took us to a historical marker where you could view a wild rice field. My husband loves history and fun facts, and was elated by the information plaques. After a few hikes, we decided to go to the swimming hole where the water was crystal clear and super cold. Everyone fully submerged, including our dog, Zelda, who hates swimming. She went nuts for the cold water, and ran like crazy, jumping and playing in the water for about five minutes, we had never seen her like this before- it was hilarious! After we dried off, we picnicked, then packed up the car, with our stinky, sandy dog, and drove back to the city.
I really needed this time with my husband and dog. This time of year, my personal life starts to get away from me, and most of days/nights are filled with work. Five hours in the sun, in nature, with my family was exactly what my body and mind were craving, and I’m so grateful to have had it!
