Minneapolis Fashion Photography / Inner Tube Dress by Hi Hi Creative
Suzanne from Hi Hi Creative caught my attention on Instagram. She creates one-of-a-kind installations and pieces that make any material look wearable. I messaged her casually, telling her I loved her work and we should collaborate sometime. So she brought a dress made from inner tubes to my Minneapolis studio to be styled and photographed.
Working with other creatives is always energizing, especially when a pool of different talents come together. Suzanne brought her daughter, Harper, who did makeup on model Bethany. Susanne Huber, yes, another Suzanne, arrived with a trunk full of fabulous accessories, including some wild wigs to complete the look.
We started very basic, the dress as simple as it could be worn to show its wearable nature. Then, we were able to play with the textures of the backdrop to create not just a photo of a unique dress, but more of a textured piece of art where the dress became a part of it.
To make unique patterns on the backdrop, I reflected the natural sunlight off of sequins and prisms.
Towards the end of the session, the team wanted it to feel more like dramatic fashion photography. We pulled in a black backdrop as well as a blue mannequin to make the dress look edgy and editorial.
A huge shout out to Hi Hi Creative and her team. Working with other creatives is inspiring on so many levels. It creates something truly unique. And for me, it always pushes me out of my traditional comfort zone.
Maybe you had a chance to see this dress at the State Fair this year. Be sure to say hello to Suzanne of Hi Hi Creative if you see her around. She is a true talent.
