Fur is my Family Project

I don’t know about you, but my dog is considered my family.  She has her own spot on the couch, will always get a brat from the grill, and snuggles with us in our tent when we go camping.   I have hundreds of photos of my dog, but recently noticed I have none of the three of us – aka – my family. This startled me a bit since we not only treat her like family but consider her our furry child.

When you’re behind the camera, you miss out on a real family photo!  Since you treat your dog like a member of the family, shouldn’t they be photographed like one? 

My yearly project, “Fur is My Family,” has a single mission, and that mission is to photograph families whose pets are just as important as a child would be (or is if you also have kids)!.

Their memory is just as precious and because their lives are shorter than ours, there’s no time like the present than to get everyone together and smile.

Fur is My Family are 20 minute mini portrait sessions happening Sunday, May 19th in St. Paul, MN.  Wether your pet is your only child or you have several others, this session is open to all families who love their pets.

Here are some like minded people and pets that participated in last year’s project.

Meet Otis and Maya! Trevor and Meghan love their dogs more than anything. After having Otis for years, Meghan and Trevor added Maya to their clan. They have all dressed up as Super Man for halloween, and their pups were a huge part of their wedding day.

Erin and Riley were married last year, and needed an official family portrait. Erin loves her border collie/lab mix Maddie. She’s been with her forever, and has been a true companion to Erin over man years. Thule (too-lee) their adopted Pit bull is newer to the family and has energy for days. Riley has been training him, and I could tell, he was well behaved for his photo session.

Wesley and Josh adopted Milo about two years ago. They loved him so much, they thought why not adopt another? So less than a year later, they added Olive! They are the perfect pair for one another. Milo is energetic and wants to say hi to everyone, while Olive watches out for mom and dad and is more reserved.

Katie and Matt adopted Greta a few year ago after loosing their last bulldog. They were heart broken at the time, but Greta has been a light and also a great big sister to their baby Lennon. Greta gives Lennon kisses on the daily and watches over her.

Kerri and Dan were so excited to bring Tink into their lives! She’s soft, cuddly, and so chill. They love their new pup and wanted nothing more than to hold her tight for a few family photos.

I remember when Ruby was just a puppy. Shelby and Alex brought him to their engagement session in 2016, and wow, has he grown into a big boy. Shelby and Alex love Ruby’s energy and poise. He’s not only a great dog, but a great friend to them both.
