Combining Forces, Strengthening our bond
Designing our planter may sound lame or boring, but for my husband and I, it’s really special. It’s the one time we get to combine forces and create something beautiful, together. It’s our first real tradition since we moved into our home last year, and every time we collaborate, I love the results.
My husband works for Phillip’s Garden, which is a kick ass design studio. Tom is pretty amazing at making designs become reality and is beyond crafty. I think of him as more of a 3D artist- he can build anything and he has a great eye for making anything he works on unique and beautiful.
Since Tom has the hookup, he brought home some leftover supplies from work. We tried to dig out some of the soil from the spring, but it was frozen, so Tom had to get out his heat gun. Once we removed some soil, we started creating layers. Spruce tips were first to go in on the back, then the yellow twig dog wood. The dried hydrangeas were next, and we filled the bottom with eucalyptus. The red winterberry touches were last to tie the whole thing together.
It may not seem like a big deal, but we don’t get to spend a lot of time together. We have opposite schedules for most of the year and rarely get a night or weekend together. When we get to work together on projects, it strengthens our bond. Whenever I look at the front of our house now, I’m reminded of how much I love him. I’m so lucky to have him in my life.
