Julie and Kurt – 12/31/16- Outing Lodge Wedding, Stillwater, MN

Julie and Kurt dated for nine years, so when they decided to make it official on New Years Eve, everyone was ready to celebrate!  They wanted their wedding day to feel cozy and warm and it was just that.  The Outing Lodge in Stillwater kept putting logs on their fires so their guests could curl up with a glass on a big leather chair with their beverage of choice and visit.

Their wedding party and family arrived at the lodge earlier that morning.  There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sunshine made everything seem warmer.  The girls wore robes lined in fur and Julie and Kurt’s dog Ralph wouldn’t leave Julie’s side as she slid into her wedding dress.  Before the ceremony, everyone braved the cold for some outdoor pictures, and I’m so glad.  Even five minutes outside can do wonders, it is essential when there’s white snow lining the roads and its not below zero.

The ceremony was intimate- just their immediate families and wedding party gathered on the second floor in front of a fire place.  After a short walk down the isle, Julie and Kurt grabbed hands.  They held on, exchanged words, rings, and after a kiss, walked back towards the other side of the room to sign their marriage license.  While their family celebrated, we snuck downstairs for a few more photos and their guests started to trickle in.  Cocktail hour turned into dinner, and fancy bottles of Russian Vodka were passed around during toast from both sides of the family.

The celebration continued after dinner downstairs on the dance floor.  Julie and Kurt opened it up with their first dance, followed by special dances shared with their mothers and Julie’s grandfather.  Her grandfather didn’t speak a ton of English, but the expression on his face while he was dancing with his granddaughter didn’t need any words.  He was proud and so happy for her.

Just before midnight, champaign was poured, and the bride and groom made their way to the dance floor.  After many cheers and the first dance of 2017, most of the wedding headed outside for a sparkler send off.  I can’t think of a better way to spend a new years than being at a party with all of your loved ones celebrating love!  Thank you Julie and Kurt for having us at your very cozy and inviting wedding!  We had so much fun ringing in 2017 with you all!
