Minneapolis Product Photography / Nia Gayle Scrunchies
Nia Gayle started making scrunchies for herself in high school. After receiving many compliments, Nia started making custom designs inspired by women who influenced her life, and it took off within her community. Word of mouth began to grow, and soon enough, Nia was filling orders.
She decided to turn her work into a business to help pay for her college. Nia reached out to me while she was still in Minneapolis for some product photography for her new Etsy Shop.
Nia brought not only her scrunchies but the friends that inspired them to my studio for her product photography brand session. They come in sets of three, so she styled them together for some simple photos she could use to explain what they are in her Etsy shop.
We then zoomed in to show the different textures and patterns so if someone hovers over them, they can see what each pattern looks like.
Nia also wanted to be able to show people what her scrunchies look like in action, so she styled her friends with each set. We took photos of the scrunchies in their hair and on their wrists to show how they can transition from hair tie to bracelet, which most of us with long hair do on a regular basis.
She believes that if her community gives her success, she has to pay it back, so 15% of Nia’s profits go to Missions Inc. and the Sexual Violence Center, two Minneapolis institutions that provide support to those who experience sexual violence.
Although she is currently working hard in school, Nia’s Etsy shop is up, running, and accepting orders. Check out her designs by heading her shop here.
